I’ve been treating a young, male patient with intractable migraines. He has had them for years, and stopped taking medications years ago because though they might work in the short run, they weren’t fixing the problem. He does his best to avoid triggers, but they are a constant in his life.
This patient is theoretically a good candidate for acupuncture, because medications can muddy the results with the rebound effects and overall destabilizing effect of medications on the migraineur.
He has not been migraine free, but numbers of migraines has reduced significantly. We will have to follow going forward and hope that the trend continues. His parasympathetic data follows. You want to see parasympathetic activity increase over time, but will settle for increasing after needling.
So data is looking good, and so is clinical response. Let’s hope it continues!
