Super Agers are those who are able to stay sharp and strong into their 80’s and 90’s and beyond.  We’ve discussed longevity on the blog frequently, my ebook is here.

We assume aging gracefully is genetic luck, and frankly, that CAN play a big role. But science tells an expanded story. Super agers—those rare individuals who maintain sharp minds and physical vitality well into their 80s—don’t all come from long-lived families. What they do have in common is how they live.

They defy decline not with hacks, but habits—simple, powerful, repeatable choices that any of us can make.

Here are the four things they do differently:

  • They Challenge Their Minds
Super agers stay curious. They learn new languages, play games that require strategy, and love storytelling. Mental effort keeps the brain rewiring and resilient.
  • They Move Like It Matters
Exercise isn’t optional—it’s brain fuel. Aerobic workouts improve neuroplasticity and reduce inflammation. VO₂ max (your body’s oxygen usage) is one of the strongest predictors of healthy aging. Aim for 30 minutes of cardio, 3–5 days a week.
  • They Stay Social
Strong relationships protect against depression and memory decline. Super agers prioritize connection, whether through weekly coffee dates, clubs, or simply calling a friend.
  • They Live With Purpose
Whether it’s mentoring, creating, or volunteering, having a reason to wake up each day helps maintain memory, focus, and mood. Purpose is fuel for the aging brain.

Super aging isn’t about defying time—it’s about aligning with it.
The sooner you start, the more likely you are to become a super ager.

It’s not anti-aging. It’s pro-living.
