In my book, Radical Resilience, I make the case that one of the many ways acupuncture “works” is that it nudges the system to fix itself, to regain balance and homeostasis. This article, reviewed by the folks at the British Medical Acupuncture Society blog, looks at how acupuncture changes the actual gene expression in two different models of bowel disease. This gene expression increases and decreases functions that lead to IBS and UC. We see that same effect in, for example, inflammation.
