It’s time to bridge the divide between modern medicine and ancient practice. Your key to a long life, healthy body, and balanced mind lies in the surprising science underlying the secrets of acupuncture.
First, do no harm. It’s the oath all doctors take, yet traditional medicine can actually be harmful. Acupuncture is a science-backed and effective method for encouraging your body’s ability to safely heal.
Western culture often doubts the credibility of acupuncture. But the truth is acupuncture changes your body’s stress response over time. Heart Rate Variability reports give you a detailed and quantified look at your stress levels before, during, and after treatment.
Recent science validates that your body is actually like an interconnected web. Heal the “web” in one area, and the whole body benefits with decreased inflammation, boosted neurochemicals, and improved mental health.
What’s stopping you from living your best life? Where does it hurt? What’s your energy level like? How stressed do you feel? I take the time to thoroughly examine your holistic medical history and goals so we can formulate a plan for feeling your best.
Have lab reports? Great, I can also review and analyze your previous results for additional clues to your path to wellness.
Acupuncture is done in a safe environment where you can relax and unwind. Pain-free and totally secure, your stress response is monitored in real-time using sophisticated Heart Rate Variability (HRV) tools.
Stress affects almost every area of health. Analyzing your HRV reports over time helps us see what approach works best for your body.
My care is not a one and done thing. As you continue through treatment, we’ll frequently review how you’re feeling, celebrate improvements, and zero in on trouble areas. Then I refine my treatment plan to give you the greatest short- and long-term benefits.
With acupuncture, consistency matters. Sticking with your treatment schedule is important for achieving the lasting relief you’re looking for.
Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches that acupuncture needles balance the body’s energy flow in meridians or energy channels. Western medicine takes a more scientific approach. Gently inserting small needles into specific areas releases neurotransmitters, increases blood flow, and decreases pain perception. All of this helps modulate the central nervous system which boosts immunity, lowers inflammation, and promotes self-healing.
Acupuncture has tremendous positive effects on babies, children, and even animals — and they certainly don’t “believe” in it! That being said, having a positive mindset about acupuncture will motivate you to keep your appointments, follow-through, and not give up your treatment.
Simply put, be patient. Acupuncture can work in just a few sessions, but healing often does take time. It’s also important to stick to your appointments. Consistency in treatment is more important than the total number of visits. And if you’re looking for more advice, positive visualization is a great adjunct therapy for success.
A lot. In my practice, I’ve successfully treated allergies, asthma, chronic pain, insomnia, depression, migraines, digestive disturbances, menopause symptoms, and menstrual problems. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, pain is believed to stem from a blockage or imbalance in the meridians. Needling the meridians frees up these channels, rebalances energy, and heals the whole body, mind, and spirit.
Acupuncture needles are sterile, disposable, and hair-thin. Because they’re so small, most people don’t feel them at all. But some patients are more sensitive than others. Patient comfort is one of my top priorities. In the rare case you can feel the needles, I will adapt my protocols for a pain-free experience.
I only use sterile, disposable acupuncture needles called filiform needles (meaning threadlike). They’re approximately the thickness of a hair, and are so thin they seldom cause any bleeding when they’re inserted or removed. Most treatment sessions use anywhere from 5 to 20 needles.
Your first visit will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes. This gives us a chance to talk about your medical history and goals for health. After that, treatments take less than an hour.
For acute conditions such as a back spasm or labor induction, one or two treatments can be enough. But for more chronic ailments, most patients see results with 4 to 6 sessions. As patients begin to feel better, treatments are spaced out until no further therapy is needed. In some cases, occasional “booster” visits are helpful for maintaining optimal health.
Some patients report feeling energetic and a distinct sense of well-being immediately after an acupuncture session. But about 1 in 4 patients have an increase of symptoms, feel tired, and need a little extra sleep after the first or second treatment. These effects are temporary and go away as treatment continues.
Initial appointments are $185, then $125 per visit after that. A discount is offered for booking a series of treatments: 4 visits for $415 which includes the first visit. Cash, check, and credit card and Venmo are all accepted.
While I understand finances can be a barrier to healthcare, I do not accept insurance. Unfortunately, most insurance companies reimburse so little that doctors are forced to squeeze in as many patients as possible into an hour. My practice is different. I offer high quality, one-on-one, individualized care free from those limitations. And here’s more good news: many health plans will reimburse all or part of your visit. My billing manager will even file the claim for you.
After working for almost a decade as an anesthesiologist, I developed a significant allergy to latex (the major component of surgical gloves), and had to quit my practice. It was a game changer. But then I tried acupuncture and was amazed at my results. I had to learn more, and became so excited by the possibilities that I made the switch to acupuncture.
