Anti-Aging Skin Topical Treatment That Really Work In Clinical Studies

Kristen Sparrow • August 17, 2024

I went on a deep dive into anti-aging skin care because of a patient with gorgeous skin (not a young person!) and she attributed it to Tretinoin.  I had tried tretinoin over the years but it was too irritating for my skin, no surprise since I’ve always had a hard time with any sort of skin cream!

Indeed, tretinoin is probably the most agreed on and studied anti-aging skin treatment.  I will be trying Adapalene since I really can’t tolerate the tretinoin.

This video covers the most important topicals.

To fight skin aging use these 4 creams

It’s never too late to optimize your skin.  In this video I rely on Dr. Brad Stanfield, an expert data driven Dermatologist.

#1 is Tretinoin, this Vitamin A analog has been shown repeatedly over years to clinically to reduce signs of skin aging. As Dr. Brad says, tretinoin is like a personal trainer for your skin, stimulating cell turnover, increasing collagen and even increasing blood flow. .05% is good enough though some people are able to tolerate .1%. Always use at night and use sunblock during the day. Even if you manage only a few times a week this is an incredible, high yield addition to your routine.

#2  lactic and glycolic acids.  These alpha hydrolic acids help to get rid of the dead skin cells and allow fresh new cells to surface leaving a clearer tone and texture.  With consistent use, they even help with deeper skin layers reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Dr. Brad recommends these 2 times a week at night, never with tretinoin.

#3 Moisturizer with ceramides. Ceramides are the glue that hold skin cells together and help to form a protective barrier. In 2019, there was a randomized controlled trial which showed that ceramides improved skin texture and diminished wrinkles.

#4 Use Sunblock!! If you do nothing else, do this. If you don’t use this, all other skin care is pointless. There are many kinds, and you can research which you prefer, but Dr. Brad recommends using a sunblock with bemotrizinol. I’ll put a few more details and links in the details.
